Bread and Chocolate on Grand Avenue was probably the second coffee shop in St. Paul, following the original Dunn Brothers up the street. (unless you count the coffee counter at Towey Drug Store on St. Clair)  An “anchor” tenant in Victoria Crossing mall, it was a hang out for baby boomers and their babies, who prowled between brownie heaven and St. Paul’s first Hagen Daz adjacent. It has little of a coffee shop vibe these days, lacking internet and promoting quick eats, cafeteria style.  But there’s a beautiful mosaic coffee bar, a fireplace in the opposite corner of the large space and it’s a great place to view the world stream by out the window.
